Le sito http://www.real-english.com

(Languages of this post: Interlingua, English)

Many people are always trying to find ways of using the Internet to make money. Others, (like me) only want to provide a free service to the public. I, for example, use “Interlingua multilingue” to provide to the public free resources for learning Interlingua and its source languages in their written form.

But there is another site, [http://www.real-english.com] that teaches spoken English without charge to students of the language. They make spontaneous video interviews with the public in many parts of the world where English is spoken to provide examples of spontaneously spoken English.

The members of the public in these interviews, naturally, are not paid. They are asked questions, for example, about what they are doing or about the kind of work they do. These videos also have subtitles to aid the comprehension of students using them.

Probably the people who do these interviews are volunteers. Naturally, making these videos and maintaining the real-english.com site costs a little money. But the person(s) who inaugurated this site and organized its program obviously believe that it is important to provide this service to the students of the world for absolutely nothing.

Unfortunately, many members of the Union Mundial pro Interlingua do not believe in this philosophy. Though there are texts that the UMI provides the public at no cost (though at times they are very difficult to download), the UMI site has many bibliographic resources that are available to the Interlinguists of the world only if they are paid for.

Fortunately, many people who, like me, believe that all the bibliographical resources of Interlingua should be easily and immediately available on the Net are strongly fighting against this counterproductive philosophy, and the growing amount of freely available resources in sites like “Interlingua in interlingua,” for example, are making more and more irrelevant the existence of the Union Mundial pro Interlingua.
