Fetuses can hear sounds outside the womb.

Some researchers were surprised to discover recently the number of exterior sounds that can reach the ears of a fetus.

After placing an intrauterine microphone near the head of a fetus, physicians have been able to hear clearly conversations at four meters away and and also from a room behind a closed door. An Irish psychologist also has noticed that newly born babies seem to recognize the musical theme of a television program that their mothers had regularly seen during their pregnancy.

According to the magazine "Woman's World," these discoveries could lead to new research to determine the effects of these musical sounds on the very small ears of the fetus.
